Programme Note: A Bigger Splash (Luca Guadagnino, 2015)

A reunion with collaborator Tilda Swinton, director Luca Guadagnino’s follow-up to I Am Love is another take on the story of the 1969 film La Piscine, which was helmed by Jacques Deray. Both films are dramas of sexual jealousy, possessiveness and psychosexual power play, and both feature star-studded casts sweating up a storm in a story rife with sun and seduction; the original features Alain Delon, Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin, while the new take offers Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Matthias Schoenaerts and rising star Dakota Johnson, bringing the magnetism she presented in the Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation to a considerably more acclaimed production…
